I used this book in Panama. It has great information on the history and culture of Panama which I really enjoyed reading. The print size problem other reviewers referred as being tiny is only in regards to map legend numbers. I had no issues with the print size. What I did not like about the book is it is the 2017 edition but already needs some updating:- There is a direct bus to the tourist center at Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal from Albrook Mall. Following the guidebook and taking any Gamboa or Paraiso bus is a waste of time as you have to walk 15 minutes from the main road into the Canal facility. At the Albrook Bus Station look for Zone D northbound and take a Miraflores bus from there. Unfortunately there is only one bus an hour so if you don't see a line of people waiting, jump in a cab if you want to save time.- The book needs a Panama City metro map, this is obvious.- Expect the book to require a major update once Panama City's Metro lines 2 and 3 are ready (2019? will include airport connection by metro to downtown Panama City).- The book suggests walking down Avenida Central to get to Casco Viajo from the Cinco de Mayo metro station. This is ridiculous, Avenida Central has no longer any redeeming cultural value; it is like visiting a Walmart in the USA to see how people live. Perhaps in the past it was home to traditional clothing/craft stores but today it is full of appliance, cellphone and cheap clothing stores, and it is NOT a short walk either. Save your time and energy and take a cab to Casco Viajo.- El Gunko in Boquete section: This geologic columnar basalt rock formation, similar to the Giant's Causeway in Ireland, deserves more mention; it is also called Los Ladrillos by the locals, and you won't get anywhere by asking them for El Gunko.
This book is perfect for my style of travel. Not staying in hostels or in Hilton's but in between. Lots of choices! I have several other Panama guide books on my Kindle but ordered this in paper so I can look at on a street corner without exposing my expensive electronics for thieves to target. Great maps!
Maybe this book is for readers < 35yo with excellent vision. I attemtped to read it but the font is unusually small and in many places the font is very light. Wish I paid more heed to the other reviewer who commented on this feature.It's a shame -- It looks like a lot of work went into it and it received positive review.
the print is so small that i am unable to read it for any length of time even with my cheater eyeglasses. it's a pity because what i have read seems quite good.
Unless you already know a lot about Panama, this book will be useless. Very confusing to figure out where places are. Difficult book to navigate. Once you figure out locations, the actual information is limited. Not the book for a first time visitor to Panama. Much too complicated and not enough useful info.
used this more when I returned to catalog the images and places I visited and look up interesting facts including species of wildlife.
