The book is written by the CEO of IMG, a company that manages international stars and athletes. The book is supposed to be about selling however I found it too specific to sports marketing and IMG. For example he talks about taking time, sometimes years to close a deal. He talks about large customers who expect you to "entertain him and his people...at least once a month". There are many salespeople out there who cannot relate to these scenarios. Many have only one shot to close a deal. Many don't sell to the type of clients who need to be wined and dined.There are many more examples in this book of situations which I feel are not widely applicable. In many senses it is not so much a book on selling as a manual on how IMG conducts its business. There are some useful sales tips inside the book but they are interspersed between largely irrelevant anecdotes.

Although it can be said everyone is in the marketing game, not all of us can say we sell for a living. Mark offers some great insights into an area that I have limited experience. From a 20 year veteran, I could see where this book presents a very high level view. However, for myself, the book is a great tool that can be applied to any selling opportunity. The insights and stories bring the examples to life and can be easilly be applied to my own situation. Business reading can be boring and uneventful, but Mark has the ability to create a scene where I can place myself sitting right next to him. Nodding in agreement to the client. Visualization is powerful tool and everytime I listen to his tapes I'm there selling my heart out. Hmmm, I wonder where my commission check is?The only book of Mark's that I have not read is the one on communication and I have already purchased it.

This was a good book. It prepared me fairly well. When I took the exam there were no surprises. I would advise getting the book spiral bound as it made it easier to work with. Yes, I used the paperback as I find that easier then electronic versions for studying and working the exercises.You can't pass the exam with just this book though. You need to get the Gmetrix practice exam as well.

This guide lays out the exam topics very well and in depth. I enjoyed being able to test myself at the end of each chapter on the topics it covered. The exam tips came in very handy as well. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in this certification.

Concise and informative. Passed my exam with a minimum of study time and have some measure of awareness about what to expect for the next exam.

The information is well organized and useful. However - and I should have realized this before purchase - you can't be working on a document and have this book open beside you. Definitely needs a spiral binding or some other way to keep it open while you're busy on the keyboard. I used this to get my Microsoft Word Specialist credential. If you're just studying for a Word exam this is perfect. It just doesn't work as a "how do I" reference. Suggest one of those laminated cheat sheets for that.

While this is a good book to practice with, I have reported to the publisher multiple errors found that may be very confusing to someone who is not very familiar with MS Word. I have yet to hear back from anyone over a month later, but I will continue using this prepare for the exam.

I followed through this entire book, page to page. It was easy to follow and has quizzes at the end of each chapter. It properly prepared me for the 77-725 exam. Definitely recommend if you're planning on taking the exam.

Book is smaller, simple, easy to understand + good for travel. I only wish the images were in color. I am satisfy with the books I received. I would like to add, the delivery of the books were timely.

This book does a great job of explaining not only the "how to" but also the "what" and "why” of the curriculum.

I enjoyed Ian Stewart’s history of mathematics, entitled “Significant Figures: The Lives and Work of Great Mathematicians”, which includes the biographies of some notable mathematicians. I found that this book had a great format, combining character insights into people, a history of a subject as well as a powerful approach to teach people about mathematical concepts and how they interconnect. I particularly liked the way Stewart was able to describe concepts such as Turing's insights into computation and Gödel’s insights into logic and link them together with their lives. I also enjoyed the way that he explained the construction of non-Euclidian geometries and how this, of course, is built one person on top of another.The book has lots of great character insights into why these individuals were so brilliant. I particularly liked the story of how Carl Gauss was able to quickly solve a simple addition problem -- summing up all the numbers from one to 100 very quickly -- that is easily grasped now but which clearly illuminates his brilliance as a young child.Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone. I think a little knowledge of mathematics is useful because some of the sections benefit from some understanding of calculus, group theory, &c.

This is a more modern, and more accurate, successor to Bell's classic "Men of Mathematics". The selection is excellent and his relatively non-technical explanations of what make these people important in the history of mathematics are first-rate.

The book’s subtitle “The Lives and Work of Great Mathematicians” is certainly quite appropriate, giving the book dual themes – their lives and their work. Twenty-five mathematicians are featured spanning two and a half millennia.I thoroughly enjoyed the mini-biographies that the author has provided; I was familiar with several of these people, but some, I had never heard of. I found the author’s prose in these stories to be clear, friendly, often lively and quite engaging.Regarding the book’s second theme, the mathematical accomplishments of these mathematicians, I had mixed feelings. As a physicist, I am familiar with (at least some of) the works of those who contributed, at least in part, to applied mathematics/physics, e.g., Newton, Euler, Fourier, etc., and I thoroughly enjoyed the author’s descriptions of their (practical) works. However, a great many of the mathematicians featured also made significant contributions to branches of mathematics whose practical applications are not obvious and, in some cases, are totally non-existent, i.e., in fields of pure mathematics including number theory. In his technical discussions, the author pulls very few punches with regards to the free use of jargon attributable to the matters being discussed, without including too many definitions/explanations of terms. Thus, in many of the pure mathematics discussions, I was at a disadvantage and much of what was presented was over my head.However, overall, I did find the book interesting and worth the read.

My teenage son loves math and really enjoys anything by Ian Stewart.

It's basically an update of Eric Temple Bell's "Men of Mathematics", although he does include people whom Bell already described (i.e. Archimedes, Newton, Gauss, Riemann, Boole). And he does go on to write about people whom Bell didn't include such as Ada Lovelace and Emmy Noether. But it shares the same weaknesses as Bell's original book, although he is never as lurid or opinionated as Bell. One could just as well read the corresponding articles in Wikipedia.

Sigerman follows Stanton from childhood, when she was first awakened to injustice, through adult life, during which she found a like-minded reformer to marry (and bore him seven children) and made a career as a crusader whose causes also included child labor and abolition. At first glance, the book's format seems a little gray; the typeface is small; and the black-and-white pictures seem a shade overexposed. Readers who look more closely, however, will find a wealth of interesting documents, including original newspaper articles, cartoons, lithographs, and photos. This is really the first complete work of Ancient Greek I've ever read. (Well, as complete as 1 book of the Histories can be.) I really like it. It's front and back matter are pretty minimal, but that's fine. Steadman provides red meat. On the left-hand page, there is a scanned image of the Oxford Greek text. The quality is usually pretty decent, though on occasion flaws from the printed edition appear. No worries as they are small. On the right-hand page is a glossary of lower frequency words (those that appear fewer than 15 times) and a bit of commentary. Less advanced students will appreciate Steadman's generous help to get them reading more fluently. There are some typos here and there, but they are completely manageable given that this volume is POD and well-priced.I can only hope that Steadman continues with making these books. This is exactly what is needed for Greek studies.

Having finished your basic Classical Greek grammar books, where should you turn to build your vocabulary and see those grammatical idioms in action? It's such a pleasure to have the vocabulary just a glance away and the grammatical comments are most helpful. There are other features I really liked too. A separate vocabulary list of the words occuring more than 15 times with the number of times each appears also noted, current books for additional reading, downloadable flashcards and a pdf file available of the entire book. What a wonderful idea and how generous! Instead of covering your text in pencil or biro you can scribble on pages printed from your home PC.The idea of "print-on-demand" books like this is new to me, but it seems to be working very well for everybody. It's explained in the preface. It means that a very nicely produced book is available for well below the price you would expect to pay for such a book. The down side is that there is apparently no independent editor, but the author is far more hands on and has more control over his product than traditional book publishing methods. Updates and corrections are available if needed. Although "printed-on-demand" the book arrived promptly. You'll need to order it from Amazon since you won't find it in bookshops at this time at any rate.Buy this book! I bet you'll buy the rest of the series too, as I did.

Steadman's layout & notes are great, and I along with many would welcome a volume for book two. The occasional errors in the glossary & notes have no doubt been found and fixed by now. Highly recommended!

I used this text for my third semester of Greek and found it very helpful. If you're more advanced the sheer quantity of notes might seem obtrusive to you -- though it's a bit more work than simply Loebing it, the book does a lot of the heavy lifting for you. Herodotus isn't too tough, which makes him a good prose author to start with... as opposed to the other big Greek historian Thucydides, who had me tearing out my hair.

This is the best approach I have seen yet. Geoffrey provides the intermediate Greek student with all of the resources that he or she could possibly need to successfully tackle this work. I love the approach and the presentation of vocabulary. This would be an outstanding resource to allow 2nd-year Greek students to successfully get into Herodotus as early as possible. I highly recommend this work, both for private reading, and as a text to use in the classroom.

I used this text for a 3/5th semester Greek class. For the students reading their first text after using Shelmerdine's Beginning Greek, this was a great start. The more experienced students caught a fair number of mistakes. Those mistakes did distract, but overall the text was useful enough that I'm going to order his Odyssey 9-12 for next semester.

This is a wonderful book as it provides all the help you need to read the original greek. It is like having your own personal tutor at your side. I wish that every Greek text could be issued like this. Many congratulations and thanks to the author.It is also a beautiful book to handle. Just what I wanted and needed!
