I was very happy I received it so soon. pretty on the out side. and just what I have been looking for on the inside. big lettering like it said. and Gods words in red. that was important to me. the last time I ordered a bible I was very disappointed it was not big lettering and God words was not in red. Plus the bible was highlighted on different pages. I was very hesident of buying this bible but went ahead and bought it with the intent if it was not to my standards I would send it back. I am very please with the Bible. thank you

This is a beautiful bible! I ordered it for my 6 yr old daughter and she loves it! It is easier for her to read because of the large letters. She loved that Jesus's words were in red. The pages are thin like in most bibles, so I would recommend using a gel highlighter if you highlight in your bible. No way a regular higighter could be used successfully.

I searched for weeks through all Barnes & nobles stores, Christians book stores and Amazon until I finally found this bible. The words are perfectly big and easy to read, I like the references at the bottom and love that I could my own custom tabs! Pages are a little thin but everything else makes up for it.

We haven’t always lived in teeny, tiny, unconventional homes, so adapting to a life of less space has most certainly been an evolution for the three of us. We have come a long way from our big, old, cluttered spaces full of useless junk to our small, cluttered spaces full of wonderfully useful junk.Perhaps you and your living space have had a similar journey into the abyss of extreme downsizing. Perhaps it went something like this:You started with about eight plates, a dozen mugs, pots and pans in every size, and a plethora of tools and gadgets. You thought you would really need that apple corer, egg slicer, and avocado keeper. There’d be room for them, you said. You had already gotten rid of so much stuff, you said. But then you spent that first month in your new home— navigating your way around your new microsized kitchen, organizing Tupperware like Tetris blocks, and realizing all over again, every single day, that you still have too . . . much . . . shit.So for your next move, you gutted the kitchen and tossed everything that doesn’t fold, stack, stow, or nest. You knocked out some built-ins or ripped out a wall and added some extra countertop. You reanalyzed your inventory and decided to keep only two of everything you eat on or with. Nothing more. You decided you’ll be making cowboy coffee from now on. No need for that electric coffeemaker, pointless! Cowboy coffee it is.Finally, you have space. Real room to breathe. Unfortunately, your kitchen now looks like the inside of a camping store. You want to have friends over, but they’d have to eat with sporks, so you get a couple more plate settings, ditch the enamel mugs that burn your lips, and buy a pour-over coffeemaker because good coffee is something you are unwilling to sacrifice. You acquire a cast-iron skillet because it does nearly everything you could ever ask  a pan to do, and like a well-seasoned pair of old Levi’s, it doesn’t really need washing. The people in your life are so excited for you and want to support you, so in the end, you wind up with a special place somewhere in your tiny home for all these mostly pointless gifts because you love the folks who gifted them to you. Sound familiar?Well, that’s because we have been there, too. The three of us have all gone mad with the work of trying to live smaller so that we can lead bigger, more enriching lives. We’ve plotted and planned, reworked, reconfigured, and redone things a thousand times in our pursuit of a better kitchen, easier cooking, and tastier food. It hasn’t been easy, but it has made us wildly more efficient, creative cooks who continue to grow with every obstacle.Our pantries are filled with food, not appliances. Our cupboards are full of spices and sketchy condiments that most everyone else refrigerates. Our fridges might technically be coolers, but they are packed exclusively with perishables because that’s all we have room for. Our counters are stained with stories of meals gone by and roads long since traveled.And you know what? These are good things. These are things that we are proud of. These are things we continue to work on every day. What we lack in physical space we can gain in peace of mind. At some point, the passing on of unwanted or unneeded goods becomes almost spiritual in feeling. The evolution is endless, as the effort becomes part of the fun. We love many penguin young reader books but this is a disappointment. We are teaching our kids to behave properly at school. So I was a bit horrified when I read "And Carmen showed everyone her underpants" in the classroom. Call me old-fashioned, I don't think this type of humor is for young children and it is not funny for older ones either.

I had first read "Fox on Wheels" in an old basal series years ago (1980s) and the students (1st-3rd) who were reading on that level enjoyed it. When I saw that there were more- I bought several sets for reading group use. It may be an "oldy" but it is well written (not slapstick or ridiculous or gross) and the students can relate to the animal characters who have the same universal problems and funny times that kids experience. That will never go out of style!

I loved reading Marshall's Fox books when I was a kid, and I have enjoyed introducing them to my 6-year-old reader. She loves them! The stories are quirky, silly, and hilarious.

This book series has been great for my son's early reading. He fell in love with the antics of Fox and his friends. The stories have good morals, but be sure to read the reviews. There is at least one book that shows Fox smoking (though he gets sick) which might not be what you want.Fox at School is one of the good ones of this series.

The Fox series is so much fun. The characters are great. I typically read it out loud first then my 7 year old niece reads it back. The pictures are colorful and the font clear and large.

I gave this book five stars because even though it is an older book it has been kept in good condition. Very pleased with this purchase.

My family loves this series. It is a little racy at times, but my daughter enjoys fox making mistakes and learning from them.

Students really enjoyed the book.

This is by far the best introductory text on visual culture I have personally come across. I strongly disagree with some previous reviewers that say the writing is "pompous" or "needlessly complex"; I am by no means an expert on the subject and I found the writing to be extremely comprehensive and even generous when it comes to explanations. The authors seem to make a great effort to be understood and a lot of really complex concepts are presented in a surprisingly and refreshing clear manner. I also disagree with a previous review that claimed that technical terms are frequently unexplained (I, in fact, think quite the opposite). Maybe the complaints about it being "unnecessarily long" could be somewhat justified if you consider that illustrating the concepts through concrete examples is "unnecessary". I think that the examples (although I admit I sometimes skimmed through them) present the rich context of visual culture and even make the text quite pleasant and colorful. That, in my opinion, is really something to be thankful for when it comes to "academic" texts.That said, I have some complaints about the quality-price ratio of the actual materiality of the book itself. I initially borrowed the first edition from my university library (where they gave it a hardcover treatment for durability) and read it almost completely through. As I already said, I thought it was great (and wanted to read the new sections added on the second edition) so I decided to buy it regardless of the surprisingly high $80 price tag. I was quite disappointed when it arrived. The paper is not too great, the typography is not the best for reading and the cover is made from a flimsy and thin "plastified" paper (I also think the design of the cover itself is awful -5 minute random cut and paste-, but you can see that from the product photo and I guess its irrelevant). Besides this, I find the format too big (it is exactly A4!). Thus, the book ends up being one of those "squiggly" books that feel like a wet fish when you have it in your hands. I admit this is not so serious, but for $80 bucks I was expecting something better made...In conclusion: content-wise the book is top notch; materially-wise it leaves a lot to be desired. It is extremely useful and it is no doubt a work of great scholarship. However, its not one of those books you enjoy having in your hands or in your bookshelf (and it will undoubtedly hurt your wallet).

we had to read this for my course and i LOVED IT, very informational and very eye opening. If you want to learn about the visual world of our society and culture then this is the perfect book

When I was looking for a textbook for my visual sociology class I went through several highly academic and rather deadly boring books. Then I came across this one. While it is not exactly what I wanted, it does cover about 90% of the needs for this class. Chapters are set in a logical order and take into account political, commercial as well as sociological and cultural aspects of "looking at" photos, sculptures, paintings, TV and films. All of this is combined with an historical frame. The terminology is well defined and placed into context with understandable examples. The photos and paintings, propaganda material and TV adds are valuable and relevant to the what is covered in the text. It is a readable text but there is one drawback....the authors beat the proverbial dead house when it comes to discussion. Like many academics, including some of my own colleagues, they like to hear themselves talk and, in this case, being read. I am more the..make your point and move on type. So while the book could probably be better edited, it is nonetheless a most valuable source in the practice of looking.

It's ok. It is alittle too dense for most readers. and for anyone with a visual comm or art/design background most if the info is not new.

This book is part of a course I am taking. You never know what book will impact you forever. This one did that for me. It was interesting reading and demanded that you think about the world and how constructs are created all around you without you ever giving it a thought.

This is an edition for young people, as the cover indicates. I enjoyed reading it, having made the choice to read it with someone I am tutoring, but I loved the original book (one of my all-time favorites) even more; this one leaves some things out. Elizabeth Borton de Trevino is--or, I should say, was, as she died in 2001 in her late 90s--a delightful writer.

I bought this book for my eighth grader's homeschool curriculum. I read it first, and I absolutely loved it. It is humorous and engaging, taking the reader through old customs and traditions from provincial Mexico, and providing an interesting comparison to our culture. My daughter enjoyed it at least as much, and it's provided material for several interesting discussions, not only on Mexican traditions, but life in general. I've recommended to several people, including one of my dearest friends who is in her seventies. You will not regret purchasing this book.

This book is an autobiography of an American woman who came to Mexico on what she thought was going to be a brief assignment and ended marrying with a Mexican and staying in Mexico for the rest of her happy life. But the book is much more than this. It describes the clash between the very different cultures of Mexico and the USA which result, almost always, in hilarious situations.Almost everything described happens in Monterrey, Mexico where she lived with her husband and eventually with her children, but as she mentions in the book, the extended family is extremely important in Mexico and she got to love and respect her "Mamacita" and "Papacito" (mother and father-in-law) as much, or maybe even more, than her own parents. "To Mamacita and Papacito I dedicate this book in loving memory."The Treviño Borton family is, in my humble opinion, "every family of mankind, the archetypal family about whom all mankind is dreaming." (Quoting from a review of Finnegans Wake). As such, anyone may appreciate this book, but... for Regiomontanos (people from Monterrey) it means much more: it describes the inner workings of the social fabric in the city, it brings to life the infinite subtlety of their ways, it gives a microscopic historical view of the 1930's that you can hardly find anywhere else, it creates a deep longing for a beautiful past.I, like Borton, married with Monterrey. Her husband was Luis Treviño. My wife is Olivia Treviño and through Borton I finally understood why "the Family" is of such overwhelming importance for my wife.The interest that this book generated in me was so great that I decided to journey through Elizabeth's world... 70 years later.I have built a web site where you can see how her house, her Mamacitas house, and many other places she mentions in the book look TODAY... 70 YEARS LATER. ...Many things have changed during the years but writing from Monterrey I can say, as she once said, "I was then, as now, so safe, so happy, within that fortress - the family."

a gift- I read this book years ago and loved it

I loved this book. It was an easy read, the characters were very "real", and I learned a lot about living in Mexico. I especially found her musings about marriages in Mexico entertaining.

What a fun book, for adults as well as younger folks. I have given this as a gift, also. The story is funny and moving. I miss the Catholic lifestyle portrayed here.
