I really love this book, and wish there were more available like it. I think what makes this book different than other same-sex led family story books is that the fact that the baby has two dads is not the plot in and of itself. It's just a normal children's book, but there happens to be two dads. We want our son to see his family reflected in books but nearly all of the books featuring same-sex couple parents make such a central point of it. We don't need to have "The Conversation" every single night at bedtime. I appreciate having this book to have just a simple bedtime story that looks and sounds familiar to what our son knows to be family.

This is a cute board book. I wish there were more children's stories written from the perspective of a single-sex parent couple, without being "This is a book for gay families". I.e. books that just have two male parents or two female parents without that being the focus of the book.

It says this book is for preschool age. My daughter is 5 months old and she likes the book. I want to instill acceptance of LGBT people and other disenfranchised people right away at whatever stage my child is in. I want her to know there are different kinds of families and no type of family is better than another. Yes, when she is older I will teach her more about LGBT rights. But now she delights at the pictures and the animated way I read the book. I hug her when reading the book. Its playful and fun, and I am teaching love from day one. The book is nice and simple and the baby and dads do what any family would do from the mundane to the fun.

I love that this is a simple, sweet book featuring a family with same-sex parents, without specifically being about the fact that the parents are same-sex. They just happen to be, which is absolutely perfect for helping to normalize the diversity of different families. The illustrations and simple rhymes are fun to read with my toddler.

Our 2-year-old loves this book. Nicely written in rhyme and well illustrated. Of course it's really nice for him to have at least one book that shows a family like his, but I think it would also be good for kids in many types of family to show the different roles that each parent plays in their lives.

This book was exactly what I was looking for. Just a simple board book with typical "My Daddy does this with me. My Papa does that with me." stuff where the parents just happen to be both men. I like that is also comes in a female version as well. Perfect, simple book to add to a baby shower gift!

love this book and the story is wonderful and the children love it too

Bought this as a gift for my dad (Papa) to read to my daughter. The story is great and it has lovely illustrations. 5 stars!

What a great way to introduce Shakespeare to a kid who loves Legos! (And even to one who doesn't. Who could resist?)However, the paperback binding is not really up to the job. After only two days of (granted, rather intense) perusal, our copy is already starting to fall apart. It's possible that we may not lose pages, since each of the many 8-page "folios" is stitched to its neighbors on each side, but all of them are entirely detached from the spine of the book, and the last several seem to be stretching the threads connecting them to the others. It will need to be handled rather carefully.For the price, and for the concept, I may be ready to take the whole thing to pieces, hole-punch it and put it into a 3-ring binder, if necessary. It would still be worth it.Edit: (2 weeks later...) I find myself being asked to read a rather daunting amount of Shakespeare to my 8-yr-old. I can manage about one act at a sitting. The binding is now much looser, but the book itself is still remarkably intact, the string still holding the folios to one another and to the cover. Have not yet had to resort to a 3-hole punch.

This is a very enjoyable way to introduce children and teens into the wonderful world of Shakespeare. This edition, which focuses on four of his tragedies is composed of full color, photographs of Lego characters acting out the rolls of each player in comic-book format with the complete text in captions beneath. Highly entertaining and a lot of fun.

Love Shakespeare, so I had to buy this book. Who knew it would prompt my twenty-something son to read Shakespeare, too (albeit an abbreviated version!)? Can Legos accurately convey the violence in Hamlet???? Nope, don't think so.

We recently bought this book for my lego-loving, homeschooled son to use while we are studying Shakespeare. Wow. Nice job. Lots of great scenes to illustrate Shakespeare's words. I'm hoping this will make it easier for my son to understand Hamlet, which can be confusing for an elementary-aged child.

Simply amazing! I love this "Lego" Shakespeare. The essence of the story and the fact that young people in elementary school could be introduced and "act" out with their own version should create an appetite for the Bard that is insatiable.

There are bits and pieces that I find useful (I didn't know about the feather file format, for example), but on the whole this is much more basic than the title would indicate.

The content is reasonable, but the book is very short and wow is the editing poorly done! Typos and other errors on every couple of pages, and the layout of figure legends seems to to have been considered at all. The amateurish production undermines the authority of the book’s tone, and it comes across in the end as a self-published pamphlet that someone decided to quickly turn into a book. I’m very disappointed with O’Reilly’s lack of attention to the book’s production. The material, the author and the purchaser deserve better.

This book can serve as a useful reminder of some speed tips and tricks for an initiated R user. However, the coverage of any particular topic is too superficial to actually teach the uninitiated.The first edition also reads like a hastily prepared draft. Numerous errors, incomplete descriptions, and redundant prose abound. If you can get past them, you will find excellent recommendations of sources that can be used to teach yourself a new topic or two. This book is freely available online at the first author's webpage, so skim this manuscript there and save your dollars for more effective material.

Writing beautiful concise code is definitely an art, and one that can be difficult to master as so many of us end up pulling together code to perform analytics in a very quick and dirty manner. This reviewer has been guilty of not commenting code and writing redundant routines because it was easier than figuring out the error in a macro or loop. In this book, Gillespie covers the concept of efficiency both through the amount of computational time and the programming time. For large datasets with a "standard" compute, in particular, R can be a little feisty, so computational tips are always useful.From that perspective, this book assumes at least a basic familiarity with R, although it touches on many of the intro concepts. It's not a good place to start if the reader is wanting to *learn* R. The concepts in it are also applicable to other languages, so it doesn't have to be R specific, but the code snippets are all designed to be executed in R. It links to other resources to learn R (including a personal favorite, the R Inferno), which is a nice touch. There is some discussion on the differences in R set up between OS (Windows, Linux, MacOS, Ubuntu).The tips are sometimes interesting - e.g. vectorize data whenever possible. Eh, there are some data types where that's not possible and perhaps not indicated for the types of analysis that need to be performed. Are there other approaches that could work? Those are not to be found in this book.Overall, moderate beginners and some intermediate R programmers will find this useful. Self-taught R programmers will also find some nuggets. Worth a read.

Having written my own book on code optimization, I have a little bit of bias on the right way to do things. I wasn't even a little bit disappointed by Colin Gillespie's book on R. Instead of diving in to code smells and best practices in coding, we roll back to the beginning. How did you set up your R service? How is the system configured? Getting the basics right before tackling coding is absolutely the correct way to get things done. Further, while there is a lot of time spent on coding correctly, memory management and all the rest, the focus, again and again, is on all the methods, not just coding, but data movement, chunking up the work, talking to the business. These are every bit as important to efficient coding as using the correct functions. Also, this relates to large data sets, so a lot of folks will simply take a few extra minutes and approach these subjects differently.That said, I gave it a 3.5 star score because this did have a few portions that were helpful and that I learned from. After running across one of these, I actually stopped and looked the book over again, and I found it a bit better were I looking at it as a beginner or as someone with a specific need set. There was also discussion on items that helped because of their approach, but this is pretty much specific to how you use R and what you want/need to learn.

When I began playing the harmonica about a month ago I purchased numerous instruction books along with taking lessons on line. I found this publication, "Instant Harmonica" by Patrick Byrne, to be very helpful. It covered the subject matter in a simple and straight forward manner. It began by explaining that the harmonica is a real musical instrument and gave tips on keeping your harmonica clean. It went on to show how to hold and harmonica, breathing and how to read harmonica music. The importance of tones and rhythm were also covered in this text.As a beginner playing the harmonica it is important for the practice songs to also have the words. This guide had the song notes, tabs and words, which made it easy to learn some of the common beginners songs. Some of these included: Oh! Susanna, Kumbaya, Amazing Grace, which is one of my favorites, Camp town Races, Frankie and Johnny, On Top of Old Smoky, Blow the man down, Home on the range and numerous other song tabs. Unlike a couple of harmonica song and instruction publications I purchased, this one covered the topic without getting bogged down in too many technical details. The important thing emphasized is to practice, practice, practice with your harmonica, which I have been doing every day.For anyone who is considering learning to play the harmonica, this guide along with some formal instruction is an excellent combination. Got this and the Swan (Chinese) Harmonica for a bday gift. The Harmonica is lousy so we returned that for a Suzuki Folk master. The book is great and lots of good songs in it. The gift was very well received.

It's a good primer - I got this for my son and I. I've been playing for 30 years but I wanted a copy of the same book so I got 2 - he can tell me what page he's on, problems, etc...It's good instruction - makes it easy. But the song selection is sorta dated. lol. I'm 46 and I barely have heard a lot of these. It would be better if it had more campfire classics and modern songs / riffs to keep the next generation interested.

This book is excellent, I was playing tunes shortly after I received the book, they were beginner tunes but still I made clear music from my Harmonica Very satisfied with this beginners instruction book.

Definitely helps in learning the Harmonica...takes much practice though as does any music instrument you learn. Satisfied with this book.

This book won't rust, bust, or fall apart, I hope. All seriousness aside, my dogs did try to sing with me, and they still do. My whole family is using the book to learn the harmonica, even though I play as softly as I can, the dogs still try to sing with me. My daughter says that I'm hurting their ears. I don't think so.
