Had this as litterature in my higher level of museumstudies. It is an anthology that's basically been desperatly created by throwing together a mixed lot of articles written by artists, academics and mostly other non-museum workers. Only one article was actually written by museum curators, and that was also the only informative and interesting article in the book, it was actually about "museum materiality" which the other articles are not! After reading this book me and my class (of people studying museumstudies) concluded that the picture on the front was far more interesting than the books content, and further more, the book has absolutley nothing to do with natural history museums (as the front suggests) so it's at the same time extremely misleading! Almost all articles are written about art galleries & art museum... I think this made most of my classmates quite disappointed, I know I was.A book marked as museum litterature for museumstudents? Containing articles about art galleries & art museums written by artists and academics who has never worked in a museum? What an joke. Conclusion:If you are a student studying museumstudies and this book has popped up on your list of litterature, don't buy it, it's a waste of money and you probably won't be able to use it later in life. Borrow it at the library, and consider copying chapter 10 since it's actually pretty good.If you are someone who just happens to enjoy museums, don't buy this book, it's misleading and you will get a false view of how the museum actually works since the book is not written by museum people. . . Instead I recommend that you buy the museums selfwritten yearbooks, those books are written by the museum staff (the people who actually works at the museum) and I find them extremely useful, entertaining anf filled with new knowledge and reflection on materiality. Depending on the museum of course. This review was written by someone who has studied museumstudies for 4 years and intends to work as a curator in a near future.I wasted my money on this book, don't make the same mistake. The cover is pretty good looking though, might remove it from the book, frame it, and put it on my wall. That way it might do me some good.

This small anthology explores the role of materiality within museums - beginning with the objects in the collection, to human engagements with the physicality of objects and architectural space, and finishing with how incorporation of materiality can enhance interpretation. Many of the essays examined the affect of the sensory stimulation - sight, touch, small, sound, and emotional feeling - on the human experience of objects, and objects in museums in particular. Additionally, considering the ways that sensory engagement creates meaning, symbolism, and memory that function as dialectic social relationships between things and people. Very enjoyable and interesting.

Scholastic is fabulous for young readers, and this book fits perfectly in keeping with that standard of excellence. This is a cute story with lovely cartoon-style illustrations meant for young readers who are just beginning to expand their vocabulary. The plot is exciting and kept my boys interested and wanting to find out what happened next--making them happy to turn pages and get involved in the life of the main character. This is an easy read, but with difficult enough words that it prompted my boys to ask questions. I liked the way there was age appropriate terror in the story without it ever crossing the boundary into gross.I think this is going to be a wonderful series for young kids and encourage parents and teachers to heck this out and share it with their children. This review is based on a complimentary copy from the publisher, Scholastic, and provided by Netgalley. All opinions are my own

My daughter is going into 2nd grade in August, the level 2 readers were too easy and a little boring for her. Instead of moving her up to level 3 readers, I wanted something that wasn't too difficult and that was exciting so she would actually like reading, and this book is perfect! The first day, she read 20 pages without me having to even tell her to keep reading. She's obsessed with goosebumps, even though she hasn't read them and can't watch the shows yet because they were a little too scary when we tried, so this is perfect. The story seems to be fast paced enough to hold her interest too. I'm planning on ordering more when she is done.

My son is in 5th grade and has really struggled with reading. I am always on the lookout for books that will be interesting enough that he wants to read them, but yet are easy enough that he won't give up in frustration. The School is Alive seems to hit that spot for my son.Things about this book that I liked:-An interesting story that kept my son wanting to read.-Lots of pictures that gave context to the story to make it easier to figure out what words he was reading.-It's a "chapter book", so he avoids the stigma of not reading "chapter books." Additionally, it gives him good places to take a break and then start up again.-All of the above makes reading fun for my son, and not a chore.

THE SCHOOL IS ALIVE (Eerie Elementary #1) by Jack Chabert, is an early reader with black and white illustrations throughout. My 5-year-old loves illustrated books about kids, and the quirky title/cover of this book caught his eye and the creepy story line held his attention.Sam Graves and his two friends, Lucy & Antonio, are students at Eerie Elementary School, where Sam discovers the school is trying to eat the students. As Hall Monitor, it’s up to Sam to fight the school and save the students. In this installment, during the class play, the stage and props come to life and try to swallow the students.I read this book to my 5-year-old son, who thoroughly enjoyed Sam’s exciting adventure and looking at the pictures as I read. Though this is marketed as a book for newly independent young readers, I saw more than a few large words that might be too advanced for a newly independent reader. However, there may be enough repetition to help in comprehension. As a book read out loud to a pre-schooler, it was perfect. The chapters are numbered with digits, which made my son happy that he could “read” which chapter we were about to start. The print is large enough to point out sight words for him too. He’s excited to read the rest of the books in the Eerie Elementary series.I’d recommend this book for parents who like to read to their pre-schoolers/kindergardeners/1st graders, and to 2nd-3rd graders who read independently, especially for kids who like adventure and won’t be scared by a dark tale with a student-eating villain.4.5 StarsReviewed by CM McCoy for Just North of Normal Book Blog

This series has been a good find for our family. The series is simple and good way to get young readers involved in a chapter book. We just got the newest book in the mail and we are still loving them. The books are easy read with only a few sentences on each page, so the readers don't get discouraged with pages and pages of words.

The Eerie Elementary series is very popular in my K-5 library. It’s highly appealing, especially to reading resistant boys, who seem to eat it up. Kids get hooked on reading when they give this series a try. I wish the author would write more of them, quickly!

I loved it, especially how well written it was.Our 7 year old grandson couldn't put it down, which is saying a lot, because he normally has only two speeds 150mph or totally asleep, but these books keep him in one place and totally focused.A friend of mine has a 5th grade student with dyslexia, and this book is the first that she's really read and discovered just how much fun reading can be!

Bought Recess is a Jungle during the book festival at my 7 year old's school and she immediately fell in love with it. It's the first book she refused to put down. It took her 2 days to finish the book and begged me to get her the two other Eerie Elementary books. She's reading The School is Alive now and it's as engaging as the first book she read. Hope you'll release more Eerie books soon!

My first grader’s first chapter book. Really engaging book and keeps me and her interested. It’s a reading level 2 grade wise, but she loves it and can’t wait to know what happens next. She also loves the illustrations. Keeps her motivated to finish the story.
