Excellent companion to his Berklee Online course "Music Business Foundations", which is available on Coursera.org. If you are just getting started in, or are interested in learning at a high level how the music business works, this book is a great read. John is a good writer and he does a good job of breaking down some pretty complex topics (like artist royalty's). The book alone is great, but if you really want to dive into the material, I recommend you take the course on Coursera while you read it.
John Kellogg provides an excellent overview of the music business, emphasizing the importance of protecting your work as an artist and how to do it, examples of contracts, agreements, and important commentary at every point about how the digital age is changing the entire landscape of the business.

A well though out update on the First Edition. Should be a staple on any serious musician or Music Business Guru book shelf. A well written, concise book packed with information.
It gives very clear information on the complexities and evolution of the deals in music businness, and his experience and knowledge of the subject awakens us for the fundamental legalities that we must look upon if we want a serious envolment in the music business. Im reading it for the third time.
