I downloaded the sample before purchase and ran into issues with the link in the book to upgrade for ability to print. Amazon doesn't seem to update versions after purchase.

It is a good book and very detailed but out of date with the current version of Apache. I downloaded the source code which is referenced in the book and it is also out of date with the latest Apache but I learned a lot between the source code and the book. It has been worthwhile.

I needed a refresher, what I knew was over 10 years old.

What I hoped for: A book that would plumb the depths of Apache's complexity and help me achieve the configurations I want in my day to day work life.What I found: A very basic getting started with Apache guide. It's fine but feels a bit scatter brained. Honestly, I think the average user would be much better off with any one of the platform specific introduction guides out there.

Good basic book for setting up an Apache server.

Great source of information. It helped me get past connection problems with my code.It would recommend it to any Apache coder.

This is a compact yet essential book behind which lies decades of empirical research. The illustrations nicely capture the core message, and the structure chosen is interesting in itself ("experts reflect, experts borrow", etc).Reading this won't make you design software like an expert, but it should help to keep important principles in mind. My only wish, and this is the researcher in me speaking, is that there was a way to link the guidance to the specific examples and research establishing that guidance.

This is a short book, little (6"x6") book that nicely captures the 66 ideas succinctly. These ideas are distilled from years of research done by hundreds of people. However, don't let the book's deceptive simplicity fool you into thinking that it is for novices. If you're not already fairly experienced with software design, you're unlikely to get much out of it. That is simply not the target audience, in my opinion. But then please also remember that it is an MIT Press book...not exactly a lightweight grade book publisher.If you are semi-expert or atleast fairly seasoned in software design, this book is a gem. Think of it as a constant reminder to deliberately prod you about some of the better practices. (The book has a companion site, but I found nothing more than a preview of the book's content there.) I view this book as surely worth the thirteen bucks I paid for it.The book's broader appeal is that anyone who does white-collar thinking-driven, design-oriented work other than software design will also find the takeaways from the book meaningful, relevant, and digestible. Overall, I would recommend this book if you're in the seasoned/ experienced category. If you're a rookie 2-3 years out of school, please come back in ten years time...it will mean more then.

I finished Software Design Decoded in an hour which makes it seem poor value (it doesn't need to be a hardback, certainly) but every page is food for thought and you end up thinking about what you've read for quite a while. A book to leave on your desk and dip into repeatedly over time.The value proposition would be improved if there were examples of each adage in practice.

This fantastic book contains numerous aphorisms and axioms for people who actually design code (not just write code).Some may say that the book is too short but that's because each page has few words but contains wisdom that goes far beyond the words.I've seen these principles often ignored on real projects and it's always to the detriment of the project.If you read the book and it seems too simple, maybe take a moment and evaluate what you do know and how you might summarize what you know. Those who've been through the Software Dev Life Cycle at numerous companies have seen each of these axioms play out in the positive and the negative along the way.Great book. Interesting and thought provoking.

You’ll find yourself nodding at times, making notes on practices to try, and thinking of all the people you want to read this.The section on experts sketching spoke to me. Beyond sketching, Software Design Decoded covers simplification, non-linearity, collaboration, uncertainty, fear and more.If you are curious how your practices match with, or can be expanded to, expert levels, pick up this book.And if you work with a manager that doesn’t get your seemingly random, casual, exploratory approach, drop a copy on their desk.

Essentially click-bait turned into print. If you're looking for a book to actually help you with improving your abilities as a developer, try Pragmatic Thinking and Learning, Design Patterns, or CODE.

I bookmark things I want to share with my scrum teams. This little book had like 40 bookmarks in it by the time I got to the other cover....every gem succinctly put and rings as true as any Dilbert comic ever did.

Nice overall design and illustrations, but kind of light on content specificity. Some of the "66 Ways Expert Think" are more bromidic than insightful. Still, software coffeetable books are not common, and this one is pretty nice overall.

This is an extremely entertaining and often insightful collection by Nobel physicist Richard Feynman drawn from slices of his life experiences. Some might believe that the telling of a physicist’s life would be droll fare for anyone other than a fellow scientist, but in this instance, nothing could be further from the truth.Dr. Feynman’s delight with life shines through everything--nothing gets him down for long. The reasons for this attitude are his ever-present compulsion to learn and discover, his urge to follow his insatiable curiosity (about everything!) wherever it might lead, his willingness to simply state whatever he thinks when asked, and his refusal to always take life so seriously. It is evident that Dr. Feynman has achieved what many can only dream of--living a meaningful and accomplished life while still being able to find absolute joy and fun in so much of how we spend that life.It’s hard to imagine anyone that would not find this an interesting and enjoyable read. Although Dr. Feynman is a physicist, this is not a science book, and the reader really needs nothing in the way of a scientific background to fully enjoy it.The book is divided into five parts corresponding to different parts of the author’s life. Within each part, the stories themselves are rarely more than half a dozen pages long, and none depend on the others. Although I read it cover-to-cover in order, it would be easy to open to any of the stories and read it independently. It is one of those books one could pick up when there are only a few minutes to read. But your experience may be like mine, and you may not want to put it down again!Highly recommended for just about anyone!

We are not often blessed with persons of the amazing intelligence of Richard Feynman. Even someone with just a smattering of science and math can appreciate this Nobel Prize winning, bongo drum playing, safe cracking denizen of the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos. Here was a man of superior intellect who could yet relate to the world around him and who had a curious interest in many facets of human endeavor. That is coupled with obvious tenderness toward his first wife, who dies of TB during the Manhattan Project. Even as Feynman writes about that in tightlipped fashion, his deep love for her and sorrow for the loss comes through.The book is not tightly organized but it is smartly written. Guys like Einstein, Feynman, Carl Sagan will all wrestle from time to time with the non-scientific question of what preceded the Big Bang, if only by asking fleetingly if there is some principle of causation behind it all. Obviously I don't know if God exists or what it all means. But it is hard for me to think that such a towering intellect encased in such a lovely witty and wise person results from mere accident. I'll go no further.

Feynman is a genius. The entire book is full of charming, intelligent, and surprisingly inspiring stories about the "curious character" that was the late, great Richard Feynman.The last chapter is something else entirely: an entire philosophy and ethos of scientific thought rolled into a few pages. I found Feynman's principles and ideals for scientific integrity almost unbelievably precious: to never compromise on experimentation, to never make claims you can't back up with hard evidence, and most importantly, to never fool yourself into thinking that you're more right than you actually are.Although only the scientifically or mathematically trained will understand much about Feynman's actual work, his life philosophy and its implications are something that everyone can benefit from. The world would be a better place if each of us tried to replicate just a little of his intellectual integrity. I almost didn't believe such beautiful, pure intellectual idealism wasn't possible until I read this book.

Richard Feynman is the exact brand of aloof, irreverent, genius that the world needs, at any and every time. This casual telling of myriad anecdotes from Feynman's life is precious and airy, even when dealing with early nuclear secrets, death, and other heavy topics. If you're not sold on buying this book, be sure to watch several of the popular Richard Feynman videos on YouTube. This book is better than any of them. Enjoy.

Very entertaining book. Feynman was famous for taking a fresh, original approach in physics; he was always re-inventing the ideas for himself by thinking them through profoundly, starting from fundamentals. He made great contributions and won the Nobel Prize in Physics. This book is not so much about physics, instead some humorous stories and adventures, which show his fresh, original approach to life. I admire his enthusiasm, his love for adventure, his sparkling personality, his honesty and the clarity of his thought, and his disdain for pretense. The anecdotes give much insight into why Feynman was such a great physicist. If you want learn about physics, with his original approach on full display, his best two books are the famous "Feynman Lectures on Physics" (undergraduate courses at Caltech) and "QED, the Strange Theory of Light and Matter".

A strangely inspiring and provocative book. It's hard to put into words the power of this book. Feynman's personality comes through so strongly that you rage against stupid bureaucrats, you see what it means to be an original thinker uninhibited by orthodoxy, you see one of the best explanations of the difference between genuine science and "cargo cult science" as Feynman calls it. You see one of the best explanations for why the California education system has such troubles, when you read his account of reviewing textbooks for the state. Somehow this book inspires you to be smarter, to be more original, and to be more intellectually honest.

Now that we have moved to Maine, I thought that it might be nice to know more about what is right in our back yard. And although I don't spend much on Kindle content, I was so in the mood to read up on this that I sprang for the couple of dollars.I thoroughly enjoyed this easy-to-read treatment of all of the basics you need to know in order to make maple syrup. Three methods are explained, based on quantity: (1.) if you are tapping a couple of trees to make a couple of quarts, (2.) you will be tapping a dozen trees to tap and wish to make 5-10 gallons of syrup, and (3.) those who wish to be small commercial producers.As this book is called "a beginners guide" you wouldn't expect to find material on reverse osmosis or even a lot of the finer details about commercial methods, like the fact that you have to put different species of maples on different tubing systems because their timing will be different. As the small commercial producer will likely be investing in a "sugar bush" (some land with maple trees) I would hope that in that case you would plan to spend some more on a more thorough treatment of maple sugaring rather than this brief one.But it IS worth that couple of dollars. The text and editing were particularly nice and Lo and Behold there were Pictures on my Kindle. I can't say whether all of them were there from the booklet, but it was sure nice!Update: the particular Kindle edition I read and reviewed is "currently unavailable" so the version you are buying may differ. Hopefully it is even better!

I Like this book in that it told me what I needed to do enable to make some maple syrup from the trees in yard this year.We followed the book, got about 40 gallons of sap from the trees, boiled it down to about 1 gallon of syrup and caramel. You really need a candy thermometer to boil it down correctly, trust me.Any maple tree will work, the only difference is the ratios of sap to syrup you will obtain from boiling the sap.Lastly the Maple syrup from our trees her in the Blue Ridge Mountains is very, very sweet to may taste. We used it in several cooking dishes other than pancakes. It makes a wonderful new glaze for salmon.

I like it a lot! While it is short; it contains a solid base beginner level information to start the process for making maple syrup and gives an idea of what would be necessary to move to the next level. It is full of tips and facts that most beginners forget in their enthusiasm of making their own syrup and gives ideas of how to save a little money by being creative/a good recycler . I personally do not have any sugar maples around me yet, but I look forward to the day I do!

Book two has definitely stepped up the game and now I am impatiently waiting for the next one.The character development is coming along nicely with interesting new ones as well as bringing Alison forward from the teen in the School of Necessary Magic series into a grownup who has the “best” qualities of Brownstone and Shay as well as her own twist on Brownstonian grade destruction of enemies.Another quality tale from the twisted minds of Anderle and Carr.

I've thoroughly enjoyed these stories. The characters have such depth and flaws that you can't imagine that they aren't real.The stories are direct and reading them uncomplicated. You don't have to work to understand the motivations and situations.Normally, when you finish a book, you can go months or even years worrying about what happening with characters. These books come frequently enough and belong to a universe of books that you can't possibly run out of stories.My hat is off to Martha and Michael. Bravo!

The plot thickens as Alison unravels more threads in the web of threat that surrounds her in Seattle. In true Brownstone fashion, she’s going to educate her enemies - it’s up to them whether it’s the easy way, or the “wind up dead” way.

Love that Alison is training Hana. Glad that Hana is looking Alison up and Alison is accepting. Glad Shay is in this story. Love the excitement, danger, and but kicking.

This a wonderful new story in the Alison Brownstone adventure and I can’t wait to see what happens next to her and Hana and the whole Brownstone family. ENJOY

I say that not at all to disparage the value of his coaching, as when you get to a high enough level of play, coaching is absolutely VITAL to incrementally increasing your performance and keeping your game consistent.Point being, the content of both books is worth many times the small investment you pay for them.CONTENT AND APPLICABILITYI became interested in poker through my interest in trading equities/commodities. I study the game because of the many skill sets required by trading, that are also crucial in poker. These two books excel at strategies in sports psychology, not at all just poker. Are they written for poker players? Yes, but I had no trouble at all translating the strategies and processes in my head into useful mental strategies for trading as well.Jared, along with his co-authors has put together a unique series in every respect. I have read several "performance psychology" books in the past that simply served as teasers for the author's coaching services. They would start off "This is what this book can do for you", introduce a concept, and right before getting to the actual drill down of the strategy/process, they would end off with "For more information on this strategy and how it applies to your unique situation, please contact the author to inquire about coaching etc.". Infuriating!These books do NOT do that at all. Look at the table of contents via the "Look Inside" feature for both books. Those concepts and strategies listed are each respectively dissected and broken down when you read the sections in full. You go from the concept/strategy, to the framework, to the application, to the actual grunt work necessary to successfully implement. Many of the concepts are rounded out and demonstrated with anecdotes from actual professionals who successfully implemented the concepts into their play.The other aspect of these books that I absolutely loved was the fact that neither of them are shy in stating how much work and hours of practice are required to master the mental game, as well as how the game of poker is never really mastered, in that even at the highest levels of play, the top players consistently put in an inhuman amount of time into staying ahead of the curve. There is no "magic bullet" aspect to these books, and that gives me a great deal more comfort in actually applying the strategies. Almost every concept introduced in these books comes along with practice suggestions, and actual strategies to most effectively and efficiently introduce them into your game.The parts of book 2 that deal with learning/deep practice and how it relates to poker are worth way more than I paid for both books/audiobooks. Jared and his co-authors actually teach strategies in how best to learn poker (Including variations as not everyone learns the same way), which I found to be useful, especially for trading and how to approach the information overload that we all face in learning almost any skill.In addition, the mental/learning strategies the book introduces are not the type trending practices that will be outdated anytime soon. These strategies, and the depth used to communicate them ensure they will prove to be central elements of the serious player's mental game, should they apply them properly going forward.CONCLUSIONI will be spending a great deal more time studying these volumes in detail, working through the strategies, applying them, and refining my trading predominantly. As I ease into the game of poker, I will be using the many worksheets, checklists and processes introduced in these books, without a doubt, as the initial plunge is always the hardest.I would have paid more than double for the information in these volumes and cannot offer a higher recommendation of them. Trader or poker player, if you work through these volumes and invest the time into the concepts/strategies, there is no question you will develop your game and profit.

I don't post reviews for books often but I had to do that for this book. it has been the best poker book I've read in the last several years. I play poker semi-professionally and this book gave me insights that can truly take my game to the next level. if you are playing poker and have been stuck at the same level for a while or want to read book that can help you dramatically improve your game then this is the book for you.

There are books that seems are written just because their authors wanted to publish something, not because they actually had any real value to share. This is not one of them. It's as good as it gets. You get real thing - that's providing you are serious, and willing to put some hard work in. Takes very nicely from where 1st book left off and goes from there (while it says you can read it without reading 1st book first, I don't recommend it).

I liked everything about the book. The thing you need to consider before you buy it, is if you like self-improvement? If you think it is not interesting or you don't need it because you think you know yourself already to a great extend, then don't bother buying it. I am not going to argue these things but if you want to truly work on yourself you need to work for it.

Not as tranformative as MGoP 1, but still a good resource

By far the best set of poker books I've read. Really helped give direction on a part of the game that I really never thought about the importance of. Once I read, and put this book to practice, by success at poker started to advance at a very fast rate.
