About the Author

Dan Weiniger is husband, father, businessman author and a survivor of two heart attacks. He was born in Flemington, New Jersey but now lives in Westfield, New Jersey with his family and their dog, Popcorn. He attended Arizona State University, where he attained a B.S. degree, and Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he secured a Certificate of Visual Communications. Since then Dan has gone on to have a varied and interesting career, trading options/futures on American Stock, owning ice cream stores and selling life insurance. Dan’s life was changed forever when he suffered a second heart attack and was told that 80% of his heart had died. He spent many days in hospital, undergoing many procedures and is currently waiting for a heart transplant, but it was the lessons he learned as a result of this which gave him the skills to turn obstacles into opportunities. It also helped him to formulate his book, The Gift of Heart Failure, in which he writes about his 12 Fabulous Fundamentals. When he isn’t working, Dan enjoys walking with his dog, watching his daughter play tennis and raising awareness for organ and tissue Donation. He also loves travel, exploring new cities and watching movies. Dan hopes that his book will inspire and help others with their obstacles, whatever they may be, and in the future he would love to be able to do motivational speaking on the subject, sharing his own outlook on life - “Instead of complaining that the rose bush is full of thorns, be happy the thorn bush has roses.”

I have read several books on how to turn obstacles into opportunities. Dr. Wayne Dyer's spring to mind. They have helped me shape my life and find happiness. What's unique about "The Gift Of Heart Failure" is that it is written not by a psychologist emeritus, but by someone who was forced to embark a journey he had not chosen, having come very close to sudden death, not once, but twice in his life.Dan can only live though an LVAD machine attached to his body. He doesn't have a pulse. "How cool is that?" he chirps. Most people who suffered such extensive damage to their heart would live the rest of their life wallowing in self-pity. Dan turned the experience into an opportunity to help others.Could the book be better stuctured? Perhaps. Would it benefit from a spell-check? Absolutely. Still, I found myself highlighting several passages. I have already started taking a few of the action steps recommended by Dan, and have witnessed a positive change in my life. I figure, anything that helps making the world a better place is deserving of 5 stars. I have also appeciated the humor that permeates the pages, and the personal anecdotes, which make the book less of an academic effort and more of a good companion on the often difficult journey that life is.

This book was a joy to read! It felt like Dan was sitting in front of me, making me laugh and sharing his most personal feelings and experiences. Above all, it was a very inspirational book, with so much depth and truth in every chapter. One doesn't need to go through a life-threatening illness to learn from and appreciate Dan's lessons--it applies to all of us. You can read it once, and then read it again for the great reminders of how to live your live with joy and meaning. All the best to you, Dan! And thanks for sharing your story.

Dan is a super hero! His positivity and cheerful outlook are life altering for all who read his book. His use of song lyrics made me smile at every instance. Each of the dozen fundamentals touched me. The chapter on kindness truly tugged on my heart.Best wishes for continued health and keep inspiring others.

Dan's sense of humor, wittiness and determination make this a great read for all those facing health fears, particularly of the heart as he describes in detail his experiences with heart attacks and heart failure. But it is more than that. It is about the human will to live. Well done, Dan.

Interesting story that truly informs a way to live more fully and happily. As a cancer survivor, I related to the truths of the book and would attest to the message it contains. The author's list of fabulous fundamentals are universal but seldom acted upon unless one's eyes are opened by a life changing experience. Hopefully, folks will read the book and take the fundamentals to heart for whatever life throws at them for a less stressful and more fulfilling future.

Read this at the library. Love the ending. Bought it along with a kite for my 3 yr old granddaughter. She's happy though that we have no trees nearby to lose her kite in!

My mild special needs preschool class likes Bear and Mole, but the ending of this book is a little unclear. Great illustrations, but ending will need to be explained.

I introduce it to my toddler class during circle time and their facial expressions were exciting with the turn of every page. After hearing and seeing the tale told; they had many questions. I enjoyed it just as much as my toddlers.

Haven't killed anyone since I got this book about how to not kill people on the job. Saving a ton of money on lawyer fees too.

Excellent OSHA standard that is very well organized. I needed this standard for my PE exam and it helped me out tremendously on the test.

The book is very informative. I needed this up to date version since my older version was no longer as viable. I went through this entire book since I also took an OSHA class to get my cert updated.

Not new at all! Cover is broken with tears in multiple pages and the spine is also damaged. Extremely dissapointed!

This book is a must need for the Professional Engineering Civil exam. I passed on my first attempt, but this book helped me answer roughly 3 questions!

Excellent reference for Civil PE construction depth. I refer to it regularly in study and professionally.

I thoroughly enjoyed getting an inside look on Lily Collins and what has brought her to where she is today. I enjoyed her frank and upfront perspective on the good and bad times of her life thus far. I always enjoy learning about someone’s personal story and I admire her for being brave and sharing her innermost thoughts with her readers.A few of my favorite quotes from the book:‘Let’s proudly share our quirks. Be you and embrace your differences as things that make you unique and special. “Different” shouldn’t be considered confusing, negative, or something that divides us. It should be a quality we applaud and admire within ourselves and others.’‘I want to look as strong as I feel. And in order to do all of that, I need to live my life for every moment and be truly present, not worried about things that are out of my control or trying to control everything within my power.’‘I’m not getting any younger, and the sooner I accept my story for all that it is, and let go of the shame, regrets, and fear surrounding my experiences, the sooner I can just live, love, and be loved.’

Book is sooo good I couldn't put it down I finish the book in 1-2 hours. It's nice to get to know lily on a deeper level and connect, felt like I was catching up with for a cup coffee.

This was really mind opening and inspiring, I really appreciated and enjoyed all of it, every word and every chapter was so organic and real. I feel really connected to Lily as a person no this was a really great read. I feel more at peace with my body and more ambitious with my life. I feel excited.

I have always loved Lily Collins and how she's constantly trying to find a way to reassure all of the teens and young adults out there that they're not alone, that even celebrities struggle with the same things as they do. She's been quite the role model of mine and is so real and personal throughout the book. I also recommend the audiobook if you're more keen on having a friend chat with you instead because she does, in fact, make you feel very included.

Heartfelt. Genuine. Brave. Inspiring. I am glad that I picked this up and read it. I felt like I was reading the pages of a well written journal.

I read this in the original Spanish, the kindle version, and thus cannot vouch for the translation. I am still processing the content, but it is typical of good books that you go on thinking about them long after you've read them.The prose is admirably clear and straightforward and a testament to the power of plain speaking in literature.The premise is that a young woman is interviewing an elderly Jewish settler in Palestine, as part of an NGO project in which she is charged with researching both sides of the Israeli settlement controversy. Ostensibly the researcher is biased in favor of the displaced Arab Palestians and the old man's long tale of untold suffering is serving to disabuse her of her prejudice in the matter, but things turn out to be greatly more nuanced and complicated than this, as the reader is given considerable insight into Arab plight as well.This results in what are essentially two family sagas - one Jewish, one Arab, in a historical context obviously well-researched by the author, with considerable detail provided.A couple of the female characters are sympathetic, but most people of either gender are flawed, some deeply so, but they are no less interesting for that.This is a tale of long suffering, from the horrors of the 20th-century persecution of European Jews to the plight of the Palestinian refugees. If one has not seriously studied the history of the era, there is much to learn here, and I believe that most of the information may be trusted.I think that Dispara, yo ya estoy muerto has the potential to be the same sort of perennial lightning rod for controversy as is, say, Huckleberry Finn, although the two works bear little further resemblance, the latter containing large doses of humor while the former treats events about which there is clearly nothing funny.The book is not suitable for school-age children, but would be a valuable addition to the academic texts used in university history classes.

Si se hubiera dividido el país en un estado palestino y uno israelí podrían haber convivido juntos?Julia nos presenta el odio y la frustración que impera en la zona como es el peor enemigo que no va a ser vencido hasta que realmente exista voluntad por ambas partes.Este libro me hizo reflexionar sobre mis orígenes étnicos y tratar de analizar con quien debería yo estar a disgusto. Me pregunto si mis orígenes indígenas americanos deberían estar molestos con mi sangre española por las atrocidades que se cometieron durante la conquista de America. También podría estar molesto con mis orígenes españoles al ser mi familia de origen judío sefardí ya que obligaron a mis ancestros a cambiar de religión. O quizás con el imperio Austrohúngaro que mandaron a un emperador a México y dejaron embarazada a mi bisabuela antes de huir del país. Para finalizar, descubrimos recientemente que también tenemos sangre libanesa en la familia. Así como no puedo estar a disgusto conmigo mismo, solo me queda la esperanza de que el problema palestino-israelí algún día se pueda solucionar sin que alguien quede a disgusto.

Excelente libro para entender el conflicto Árabe-Israelí. Las historias paralelas que narra el libro a partir de los israelís protagonizados por los Zuckers y los árabes Ziad deja al descubierto hasta que punto las ideologías pueden llegar a separar la humanidad. Un libro cargado de personajes que vivieron y murieron creyendo en sus ideales. El punto más importante de libro se encuentra en la capacidad de llevar al lector a sentir la persecución, el racismo, la traición, la guerra y la muerte que reina en este histórico conflicto.Muy recomendado.

Este libro me fascino-------realmente no sabia mucho acerca de la historia de los judios que fueron a Palestina y me gusto poder ver y entender mejor el conflicto entre los judios y los palestinos desde los inicios hasta el dia de hoy. Aunque el libro es larguisimo (1000 paginas?), vale la pena. Aunque a veces me aburri un poco, al final el libro se puso super interesante. Una recommendacion----seria mejor leer el LIBRO y no por Kindle como hice yo. A veces estaba confundida con los nombres de los personajes y/o los eventos y no es tan facil volver atras en Kindle. Les he recomendado este libro tambien en ingles a mis amigos que no hablan or leen castellano.

Una historia real y tremendamente conmovedora, que revela el doloroso drama de los judíos exiliados de diferentes partes del mundo que van hacia Palestina, ciudad que antaño les perteneció . Se encuentran con los árabes que sienten amenazado su territorio por la invasiòn de los judíos que llegan y compran tierras para sentir que tienen un lugar a donde pertenecer. Dos perspectivas opuestas y absolutamente auténticas. Por momentos , el dolor resulta insoportable. Muy bien escrita.

This is a large, 2017 set from Eireann Press of 54 great Verne novels, of which 46 are in English and 8 remain in French. The translations are the standard old, public domain ones, meaning they are the familiar "classic" ones many of us grew up with and enjoyed (but which, in many instances, are slightly abridged). There are various active TOCs to easily access content, but paragraph distinction is inconsistently rendered; in some books paragraphs are distinguished by traditional indention (great), in others by space between them (okay), but in some not at all (terrible). Reading a book in which paragraphs are not readily identifiable is a nuisance. For that reason this otherwise 5-star set gets rated one star lower.I greatly enjoy Verne's quaint, very descriptive and detailed, travelogue-style adventures often involving several protagonists trying to survive in one or more exotic locales while in search of something or someone. Not all of his 46+ books are equally as great, but all are enjoyable -- if formatted properly.There ARE editions in which paragraphs are properly indented throughout (unlike this one). I would especially recommend two: (1) The DELPHI COMPLETE WORKS OF JULES VERNE and (2) the 47-book set (all in English) from Book House titled JULES VERNE: THE EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURES (THE GREATEST WRITERS OF ALL TIME). Those two are so great, rather than choosing between them, I bought both.

The binding on this book is not very good quality -- the one I purchased (and am returning) had bent corners and the inside front pages were coming apart from the spine. Disappointing, because I bought it as a Christmas present, the replacement is way overdue, and now I have to come up with something else.

No complaints, classic Verne. If you're not familiar with his writing--takes a little work to keep up with it. Gotta keep track of timelines. Not necessary to know all the scientific jargon, as long as you get the main point. Everyone should read at least two of these tales. A must have in every library. Also have received a few compliments on this leather bound edition.

I will start by saying that when this arrived I was very excited to see the beautiful book. However, when I attempted to read this along with one of my students I was very dismayed to find that this is NOT the Jules Verne version of Journey to the Center of the E -I can't speak to the others I did not compare the other stories with the original. I bought this to read along with my student, but It is some kind of summary and even changes the character's name. VERY disappointed. So very disappointed.

This book was a gift for my husband, who has been really enjoying it. The quality of the binding is wonderful and we're glad to have these stories in our collection now. I have read that others have had issues with the spine of the book but so far we haven't had issues at all. The type is a little small but that is to be expected with as many stories as they have put into one book. We also really loved the book marker inside! Thank you so much to the seller for fast shipping. Happy reading to everyone!

Maybe I was naive to think a book could hold this much content, but the spine broke even before it arrived (meaning the cover is kind of coming off), and the font is small enough that I can't read it without my glasses, which I never bother with for "normal" books. So perhaps buyers should re-think what is possible in terms of fitting so much literature into such a small package...

I love this book, and the way it has been put together - from the perfect thickness and smoothness of the gold leaf pages, to the crisp, clean printing, to the way that it easily stays open as you read it. There is a great introduction about Jules Verne and the stories that are included. A superb, quality edition, and an excellent value!

gorgeous copy! It was a present and dis not disappoint.
