I study the game because of the many skill sets required by trading, that are also crucial in poker. These two books excel at strategies in sports psychology, not at all just poker. Are they written for poker players? Yes, but I had no trouble at all translating the strategies and processes in my head into useful mental strategies for trading as well.Jared, along with his co-authors has put together a unique series in every respect. I have read several "performance psychology" books in the past that simply served as teasers for the author's coaching services. They would start off "This is what this book can do for you", introduce a concept, and right before getting to the actual drill down of the strategy/process, they would end off with "For more information on this strategy and how it applies to your unique situation, please contact the author to inquire about coaching etc.". Infuriating!These books do NOT do that at all. Look at the table of contents via the "Look Inside" feature for both books. Those concepts and strategies listed are each respectively dissected and broken down when you read the sections in full. You go from the concept/strategy, to the framework, to the application, to the actual grunt work necessary to successfully implement. Many of the concepts are rounded out and demonstrated with anecdotes from actual professionals who successfully implemented the concepts into their play.The other aspect of these books that I absolutely loved was the fact that neither of them are shy in stating how much work and hours of practice are required to master the mental game, as well as how the game of poker is never really mastered, in that even at the highest levels of play, the top players consistently put in an inhuman amount of time into staying ahead of the curve. There is no "magic bullet" aspect to these books, and that gives me a great deal more comfort in actually applying the strategies. Almost every concept introduced in these books comes along with practice suggestions, and actual strategies to most effectively and efficiently introduce them into your game.The parts of book 2 that deal with learning/deep practice and how it relates to poker are worth way more than I paid for both books/audiobooks. Jared and his co-authors actually teach strategies in how best to learn poker (Including variations as not everyone learns the same way), which I found to be useful, especially for trading and how to approach the information overload that we all face in learning almost any skill.In addition, the mental/learning strategies the book introduces are not the type trending practices that will be outdated anytime soon. These strategies, and the depth used to communicate them ensure they will prove to be central elements of the serious player's mental game, should they apply them properly going forward.CONCLUSIONI will be spending a great deal more time studying these volumes in detail, working through the strategies, applying them, and refining my trading predominantly. As I ease into the game of poker, I will be using the many worksheets, checklists and processes introduced in these books, without a doubt, as the initial plunge is always the hardest.I would have paid more than double for the information in these volumes and cannot offer a higher recommendation of them. Trader or poker player, if you work through these volumes and invest the time into the concepts/strategies, there is no question you will develop your game and profit.

I don't post reviews for books often but I had to do that for this book. it has been the best poker book I've read in the last several years. I play poker semi-professionally and this book gave me insights that can truly take my game to the next level. if you are playing poker and have been stuck at the same level for a while or want to read book that can help you dramatically improve your game then this is the book for you.

There are books that seems are written just because their authors wanted to publish something, not because they actually had any real value to share. This is not one of them. It's as good as it gets. You get real thing - that's providing you are serious, and willing to put some hard work in. Takes very nicely from where 1st book left off and goes from there (while it says you can read it without reading 1st book first, I don't recommend it).

I liked everything about the book. The thing you need to consider before you buy it, is if you like self-improvement? If you think it is not interesting or you don't need it because you think you know yourself already to a great extend, then don't bother buying it. I am not going to argue these things but if you want to truly work on yourself you need to work for it.

Not as tranformative as MGoP 1, but still a good resource

By far the best set of poker books I've read. Really helped give direction on a part of the game that I really never thought about the importance of. Once I read, and put this book to practice, by success at poker started to advance at a very fast rate.

I was very surprised that this book was so good. I expected it to be poorly written or self serving but it wasn't. I am not a Motley Crue fan but I love biographies and this one did not disappoint. The guys are very honest even if it doesn't make them look good. Great read.

I reluctantly ordered and then read this book, based on the recommendation of a co-worker who told me over and over how good it was and how much I would love. So I ordered it and it sat in my magazine rack at home until I reluctantly picked it up and started reading it on a rainy Saturday afternoon. After one chapter, I was HOOKED and could not put it down.I was never a big Motley Crue fan. I liked their radio hits, but that's as deep as it went for me. But these guys tell their stories in a way that has you rooting for them and they almost make you feel sorry for them - even though they are treating women like crap, drinking like fish, doing more drugs in a day than most people could handle in a month, stealing each other's girlfriends, you name it. There are specific stories that will stay with me forever - Ozzy Osbourne snorting ants out of a sidewalk crack at a hotel is one of those stories.The Motley Crue guys are non-stop crazy, non-stop over the top and just plain NON-STOP. I had this book read in two days (and it's a THICK book) and was sad when it ended. I wanted more. Reading this book didn't make me more of a Motley Crue fan but it was the most entertaining and interesting book I've read in a long time and one that will stay on my bookshelf for years to come. I highly recommend it to all Motley Crue fans and fans of good rock and roll stories.

This is one of the best music memoirs I have ever read. I mean, everything I ever thought about Motley Crue and its individual members before I read this book turns out to be mostly true lol The way each of them gets to tell their POV of the same event is really cool. It's really a riveting read and not a dull moment and again, I gotta say, poor John Corabi lol Anyway, I would love to see a follow-up too as this book is now 17 years old. Since then, they did another album with all four original members, they have now retired the band (permanently?) and did their last tour. Also since then, their personal lives have changes a lot. More divorces, new relationships/breakups (multiple) and marriages. Of course, there's not been a dull moment in the lives of these men since 2001 even though now they are in their 50s and 60s and most are grandpas now. I am still sure there's more story to tell and would love to see a part two! In the meantime, I am looking forward to "The Dirt" movie that will be on Netlfix this year. They just wrapped shooting.After reading this book, I walked away with a new found respect for the band and each member. They all had(have) their issues, but you can't say they didn't actually LIVE LIFE and all are still alive and kicking as of 2018 and still doing music, but I still recommend this book even if it's been a minute because the tales are all relevant especially as it relates to their 80s heyday. Had such a ball reading this!

Very plain, simple writing and crazy ass stories as you might expect. This is fascinating to me as a kid who grew up in the 80s and listened to hair bands all the time. It's a fun, crazy, crazy, indulgent read for a 40 something year old guy so many years later. Highly recommend (if you're not easily offended by insane behavior) and think it'll blow anyone's mind who had a normal upbringing...these guys had such messed up childhoods! Eye opening.

Another fast read. I read autobiographies of everyone, of late, people, bands, places of when I was young. Of the four band members, Nikki was the most in depth. This tells of the bands beginnings, their decadence, splits, personal lives, and everything in between, from not only the four band members, but others in management that added a view point beyond, or other perspective of the four. If I had to choose one of the four to be friends with, it would be Mick. The things that Nikki, Tommy and Vince describe doing, especially to groupies, are beyond me. Some people may say a groupie deserves what they get, but there are boundaries.I still give it five stars; for even though growing up I could have cared less about their personal lives, they did not seem to water down the debauchery as they looked back and wrote this as middle aged men, and perhaps with maturation that should be gained over the decades. We all knew this book was not going to be about a band of choir boys.

I picked up Vaclav Smil's Energy because I wanted to better understand mankind's current use of energy, and to develop a better perspective on how I personally consume energy. The book was perfect for both of these purposes.At ~200 pages, I figured the book would provide a quick survey of many topics at a high level, and wouldn't read like a science textbook. This is true, but someone looking for an overview should know that this book is packed with detailed explanations of the topics that are covered. As a non-scientist, this book increased my knowledge and certainly shed light on the applications to modern life that I was looking for.I highly recommend this book.

Excellent summary for an intro energy college class. Quantitative tables and sidebars but very readable main text. Half the book covers energy in the natural world and human nutrition as foragers. The rest is a bit rushed but can be supplemented by Smil's excellent 2017 Oil 2nd ed and Natural Gas books, all very reasonably priced.

The first chapter is tedious. I never did fully internalize some of the more esoteric concepts in college, such as mols and joules, and still don't, but the rest of the book is chuck full of amazing data and factoids.It left me in awe of just how much we humans have come to know. Also, it puts in perspective some of the climate change issues. Just remember, there will not be a quiz and enjoy knowing that out there scientists actually understand a lot more than today's media can ever present.

Definitely has some great information regarding the topic, though there is no compelling narrative to make you absorb those facts and integrate them into your memory bank.

I read “Energy and Civilization” enjoyed that and decided to read this book. I think one or the other is sufficient. They both are good and communicate our reliance on fossil fuels and the need to find alternatives.

Super interesting book, it is an amazing introduction to energy as a concept and its history.Then leads you into the practical uses we as humans have mastered and how what we can somewhat achieve with it in the future! Amazing book!

Vaclav Smil has a great way of presenting facts and figures so that you understand them in context.I learned a lot from this.

This is a classic book which was an attempt to look at the underlying reasons why the Protestant north of Europe and England became economic powerhouses and some became imperial powers (England and Holland). It looks at the importance of individualism and a change in how the individual viewed his/her relationship to the church and God. It is somewhat impressionistic and is at heart, a challenge to the reader to consider the role of religion in a culture and economy. Still an interesting approach and not entirely outdated. Anyone interested in eighteenth to early twentieth Europe should read it. Read it for a book club and we all had differing reactions.

This classic is more referred to than read by economists in Anglo-Saxon countries where Weber is considered mainly a sociologist. When I went to Graduate School (Wisconsin) it was not even mentioned. A pity, because it is a milestone in the search for explanations of historical events, in this case the extraordinary spread of capitalism in Protestant countries. Onemay not buy Weber's thesis in part or in toto, but it is so carefully argued that dissent has to be very nuanced and scholarly to be persuasive. (An example of such creative dissent is Tawney's "Religion and the Rise of Capitalism").This Edition contains a fairly good translation; its main weakness is the arrangement of notes (Editor's and Weber's) at the end of each chapter. Hard to find because tops of pages don't contain chapter titles. And the notes are an important part of the whole.The book also contains several of Weber's rebuttals to some citicisms that he received. Since these critiques are not reprinted here, the rebuttals are not fully self-explanatory. Moreover, this section is not inspiring for another reason: the tone of academic petulance diminishes the image of a great scholar.

I can not believe I waited until I was 59 years old to read this book in its entirity. This is a clear, concise analysis of the cultural factors that created the "capitalist spirit" in general and in America specifically. Weber clearly analyses the belief systems of Protestantism that created the "Protestant Ethic" that compelled the protestant Americans to work hard, deligently attempting to earn capital and then to use that capital to further God's work here on earth. That wealth was not to be accumulated for personal consumption, but for further investment. Further investment meant more jobs, and a better life for others. In addition, profit was seen a God's blessing and was to be used by the individual to provide charity to those who were destitute.It is amazing how this culture is evident in our lives today, even among those who are no longer Christians. Look at Buffet, he does not live ostentatiously, he creates and accumulates capital, he is still working at his advanced age, he works constantly, and he has given away his profits to charity. This is an almost perfect example of the protestant ethic. Look at Ted Turner's work and charity. Poor old Ted does not understand the forces of the culture that motivate him, but he is being carried along by the current that has been handed down to us by our forefathers. The same can be said for the Gates and their foundation, working to provide charity to the people of the earth. The same can be said for the Mellons, Carnieges, and others of thier ilk. Work hard, it is a calling, it is important to create wealth, it is good to create wealth, and then provide charity with that wealth. That is the ethic, and Weber tells us how it happened, and why it happened exclusively in America.

Since I'd often seen this work cited in other writings (economics), I wanted to read it first hand. Glad I did.Weber himself was not taking sides religiously, just observing what he considered the facts of the case of the religious roots of America's booming capitalism, written when the US was emerging as a serious world power. Though by no means a deep dive into theology, Weber digs into an explanation of Protestant doctrine to make his point. Each reader will draw his own conclusions, but one cannot dispute the thoroughness and documentation of Weber's analysis.Not an easy read, but worth it if you want to better appreciate what made this country great.

Those considering buying the Kindle edition, just be aware most Greek phrases are rubbish, and that links only work for the editor/translator notes, and not for Weber's own notes - so it is extremely tedious to consult the author's extensive and important comments.This doesn't detract from the greatness of this text, and specifically the introduction and the included debates about The Protestant Ethic are a tremendous value. I just wish eBook quality was better.
